Welcome to MCSJ at
Treesmill Farm

Treesmill Farm dates back to the 15th Century. The mill was once run by monks from the local priory and the Saints Way runs past the gate.

The Farm is featured heavily in the novel "The House on the Strand" by Daphne Du Maurier. The title is the English translation of the local village name Tywardreath and Treesmill actually means Mill on the strand (beach). Trees is a corruption of Dreath, to treath and eventually trease.

The novel is inspired by the changes that have happened over the last few hundred years. Ships once came up the creek to the Mill but the local bay silted up due to mining and the creek has become a tiny stream, as you can see from the picture on the right. The surrounding area is in a lovely rural setting and steeped in history and tradition ideal for getting inspired!

There are lots of lovely places to stay in this area, check out our accommodation page for some places recommended by our students.
