Introduction to Chainmaille
This is a two day class
Chainmaille is an ancient art and very simple to learn. Starting with basic projects and using just pliers, you will learn to make chain jewellery which looks great on its own or complements other jewellery making techniques.
Students will be working with Bright Aluminium which is similar in appearance to silver. This allows you to experiment and learn with a cheap material. Once you've developed your skills, you will be able to work with sterling silver, copper, brass or nickel silver.
During the weekend, you'll learn four weaves:-
- European 4in1 - the most basic weave used in jewellery and armour
- Double Spiral Chain - an easy chain style
- Byzantine
- Aura - Sara invented this weave
Materials for all four projects are included in the course fee and students will have enough rings left for an additional fifth project at home.

Byzantine - bright aluminium and anodized aluminum

European 4in1 using bright aluminium
Double Spiral - this is made in copper, brass and nickel silver, you'll be making this design in bright aluminium on the course.
