Making Unique Textures for Metal Clay Class
This is a two day class.
One of the best things about working with metal clay is the way it takes texture. When you first start using metal clay, it's very easy to use the commercially available texture sheets and rubber stamps. At the Mid Cornwall School of Jewellery, we encourage our students to find unique textures, using everyday objects to make great designs.
Most of the textures we'll make during the weekend can also be used with sheet metal in a rolling mill. That makes this class equally suitable for silversmiths and jewellers.
You'll discover how quick and easy it is to make your own textures with minimal costs. This class will add a whole new level of artistic identity to your metal clay work because you will be using totally unique textures. We'll cover making textures from your own designs into *Photopolymer plates (results are deep texture similar to rubber stamp) *Tear Away texture (results are shallow texture - perfect for making silver clay items for Keumbo gold application), *Carved polymer (results are raised designs on your silver clay) *Ways of capturing found textures and more.
Pendant by Lisa Cain Found texture & opal
Bi-cone bead by Lisa Cain Captured texture from Romanesca cauliflower
We can make photopolymer plates and Tear Away textures from drawings, poetry, prints, zentangle, etc but these must be strictly black and white with no grey tones or they won't work. If you dont have artwork to bring, we will have plenty here to work with. There will also be a texture swap so please bring along interesting textures and 2 part silicone moulding compound Everybody goes home with moulded copies of some great new textures!
The course cost includes a PPP kit for you to take home and all the tools and equipment you need to create lots of textures. The focus of the course is for you to make a variety of textures and we will not be making any metal clay items during the weekend. A selection of designs will be available for you to experiment with and we will also give you access to design books, photocopiers and printers for you to design your own patterns. If you would like to bring your own designs with you, please do.
