Information about Chu-mei

After five years working as a visual merchandiser for a large home furnishing company I decided to spend more time working on my own creations and set up Grace and Firefly. I have always loved collecting fabric and buttons, gluing bits and pieces together and threading beads, which also lead me to discover many different jewellery making techniques.

Most of my training has been at the London Jewellery School and Mid Cornwall School of Jewellery with various British artists, where I achieved Art Clay level 1 and 2 certification and the MCSJ Higher Metal Clay Diploma.

To fulfill my passion for both sewing and jewellery making, I extended my range from little cute purses to button jewellery and fine silver jewellery. “Grace and Firefly” is all about making those sweet accessories that every girl and woman wants!

I was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan but have been living in the UK for the past 15 years. I enjoy all the good things that different cultures have to offer. I love the shabby chic style, cute Japanese accessories and am very fond of Goth inspired art. I also take inspiration from anything around me and sometimes find the best designs come through trial and error, which can often lead to something quite unique and different.

After being a “regular” at London Jewellery School, the school director, Jessica Rose, asked me to be part of the team in 2010. Now I am teaching Metal Clay and other jewellery making classes while continuing to work on my own collections.
